Interview with Gilles Louvet, President and founder of the Languedoc organic wine merchant CVLD: "The organic wine market is booming"
For the last three years, sales of the trade company CLVD Aude (Languedoc Cellars Wine Distribution) have recorded an annual growth of 40%. This year, despite the crisis, growth could be even higher. Its niche: the making and trading of organic wines. With a production of 40 000 hl and 3.5 million bottles sold annually, CLVD has become the first operator of organic wines in France. For Gilles Louvet, founder and president of the company, the demand for organic wines will boom the in the coming years. Large foreign retailers as well as French mass distribution are in the process of creating or expanding their offer of organic wines and the lack of supply could actually limit the growth of this emerging market....
Jacques Lurton, organiser of the Masters of Wine Symposium in Bordeaux (June 2010) : "We hope to see lots of French visitors forging links with the MW"
Bordeaux is working actively on its status as world wine capital. Vinexpo is being held in Hong Kong in June 2010 : however, the Bordeaux Fête le Vin event will be accompanied by the Masters of Wine Symposium in Bordeaux, from 24 to 27 June 2010. The wine world's most prestigious training school is based in the UK, but lives out its international ambitions through courses abroad, such as the Symposium, attended by all wine professionals. These days, the promotions are less and less dominated by the British, and depend on the nationality of the degree-holders. Good news for France - this year, the symposium is taking place in Bordeaux. Jacques Lurton, the organiser, has made sure of that......

Grigor Grigorov imports wine to Bulgaria on behalf of an Italian company. He has worked with Italian exporters, who are the most dynamic, or at least the number one presence, on the Bulgarian market. Interview with Fabrice Mauge (Ubifrance Germany) : "The German market offers good prospects in the medium term"
In the first quarter of 2009, the German wine market is growing in value (+2.2%) with only a slight falling off in volume (-0.7%) of distribution (AC Nielsen). However, explains Ubifrance, exports of French wine to Germany have dropped by 5.7% in volume and 12% in value over the same period. Fabrice Mauge, from the OIV (Office Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin), Wine and Spirits Export Consultant for Ubifrance in Germany, discusses these results....
Economy : Shortage of wine supplies could lead to an upturn in purchasing for 2009 / 2010
The wine crop in France is expected to be below average this year, although larger than the poor harvest of 2008. However, suppliers are facing a reduced demand in exports as well as within the domestic market. This is reflected in prices, with AOC wine selling at a lower price in July 2009 than July 2008. However, for the year as a whole, 2008/2009 prices are slightly higher than those of 2007/2008. Producers are counting on an influx of orders from wine merchants, for whom the very low level of availability 'is the one positive factor which could pave the way for increased purchasing in the year 2009/2010,' according to the statistical body Agreste.

Economy : American wine market remains a priority
According to both the Wine Market Council and Nielsen, the economic crisis should not lead to a reduction in the amount of wine consumed in the United States. Indeed, wine consumption in the United States is in fact on the increase. In their latest report, ‘Where to export to during the crisis ?’ Ubifrance observe that the American market remains a priority among key export clients, despite the recent falling-off in exports to that country. John Gillespie, president of the Wine Market Council, and Danny Bruger, vice-president of Nielsen, are seeking ways to adapt to changes in the American market....
